A mosque is seeking compensation from police after officers accidentally swooped on the place of worship during a drugs raid.
Officers smashed down the door to the mosque — which is the British headquarters of the Nation of Islam — on Thursday morning after getting a warrant so search a neighbouring lock-up garage.
During the search of the garage in Brixton, south London, officers noticed a doorway leading to another room. Believing this area to be covered by the warrant, they smashed the door down. But when they stepped through the door they realised they were in a mosque and quickly left.
Worshippers at the Nation of Islam, a black nationalist sect led in the US by controversial minister Louis Farrakhan (a hate-monger) , said they were “disgusted” by the raid.
