HOUSTON, Oct. 14, 2007(CBS) Joel Osteen‘s positive, upbeat can-do message has turned him into America’s most popular preacher and earned him the title of most influential Christian in the country. He pastors the biggest and fastest growing American church and his services are the most watched religious broadcast in the country. As Byron Pitts reports, Osteen was virtually unknown eight years ago, even in his own Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas. A college drop-out, he worked behind the scenes producing his father’s television ministry. When his father, Pastor John Osteen, died, he stepped out in front of the camera and

The lawsuit, filed in September, accuses Victoria Osteen of pushing Sharon Brown, a Continental Airlines flight attendant, and elbowing her in the chest.
The Federal Aviation Administration has fined Victoria Osteen, wife of Lakewood pastor Joel Osteen, $3,000 after determining she had interfered with a Continental Airlines crew member aboard a flight late last year. And this week, a flight attendant filed suit claiming she was assaulted by Victoria Osteen during that flight to Vail, Colo., for the Christmas holidays.
He’s the most popular preacher in the country right now – a best-selling author and the “most watched minister” in America. But when asked yesterday about gay marriage during a trip to the bluest state in the land of the free – and the only one where same-sex nuptuals are legal – the Rev. Joel Osteen suddenly got sheepish. “I don’t think it’s God’s best,” the handsome Holy Roller said of homosexuality. “I never feel like homosexuality is God’s best.” When pressed on the issue, Osteen said, “I don’t feel like that’s my thrust . . . you know, some

Joel Osteen is pastor of Lakewood Church, which has more than 30,000 worshippers weekly. “Aunt Johnnie was
Seven years ago, Joel Osteen was running the cameras at his father’s Houston church. Then his father died of a heart attack. Osteen, who didn’t finish college and never attended seminary, took over as pastor. “It was just something that I knew on the inside that I was supposed to do,” recalls the soft-spoken Osteen. It turns out Osteen has a natural gift for the pulpit. His message of positive thinking and living is just what the congregation wanted — Lakewood Church is now the largest church in the country with 40,000 people attending, over four services each weekend. Osteen,

FBI agent says the pastor’s wife didn’t follow a flight attendant’s instructions A dispute involving the wife of Lakewood Church pastor Joel Osteen delayed holiday travel plans for a planeload of passengers, but few details were released Tuesday. At least some people aboard the Continental Airlines flight were less than pleased after waiting about two hours at Bush Intercontinental Airport while the Osteens left the plane and their luggage was removed, said a woman who witnessed the incident. “She was just abusive,” said Sheila Steele, who said she was sitting behind Victoria Osteen. “She was just like one of those
