Jedi church founder thrown out of Tesco for refusing to remove his hood

Jedi Church The founder of the Jedi religion inspired by the Star Wars films was thrown out of a Tesco supermarket for wearing his distinctive brown hood.

Daniel Jones, 23, who has 500,000 followers worldwide, was told the hood flouted store rules and was ordered to remove it or leave the supermarket.

As a result Jones, who also goes by the Jedi name Morda Hehol, claims he has been ‘victimised over his beliefs’ and left ’emotionally humiliated’ by the supermarket in Bangor, North Wales.

But Tesco hit back in the spirit of the epic space saga and claimed that the three most well known Jedi Knights in the Star Wars movies – Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker – all appeared in public without their hoods.

Power of force leads to census farce

AP, Aug. 27, 2002 http://www.cnn.com/ SYDNEY, Australia (AP) –May the Force be with you. Amen. More than 70,000 fans of the “Star Wars” movies have upset Australia’s statistics agency by identifying their religion as “Jedi” during last year’s national census. The Australian Bureau of Statistics said Tuesday that 0.37 percent of the nation’s population of 19 million, or 70,509 people, had written “Jedi” or a related response to an optional question about their faith when the head count was taken last August. Jedi is a mystical faith followed by some of the central characters in the “Star Wars” films. The
