Dutch right-wing politician Geert Wilders has posted a controversial film critical of Islam’s holy book, the Koran, on the internet.
Wilders’s movie, “Fitna,” opens with verses from the Koran and continues with images of the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York in 2001 and on Madrid trains in 2004.
Mr Wilders has rejected the proposal. The network first wants to ascertain that Fitna does not violate any constitutional rights. The far-right politician says the demand is unacceptable.
The US hosting service, Network Solutions, said it was investigating complaints that it may have breached guidelines on hate language.
In a joint statement yesterday, the Protestant Church in the Netherlands (PKN), the Council of Churches in the Netherlands, the Muslims and Government Contact Body (CMO) and the Islam Contact Group (CGI) expressed their “great concern” about the anti-Islam film that Party for Freedom (PVV) leader Wilders wants to bring out. (Note: they have not seen the movie…).
As Geert Wilders sees it, Dutch and European politicans behave as if they want to protect the members of all religions against insults and abuse, all the while overlooking the fact that it is usually the members of one religion who respond aggressively whenever they are accused of having a propensity for violence.
Network Solutions has not made specific comment about the possibility of the documentary being hosted on their servers, but a number of reports suggest they are prepared for possible DOS (Denial-of-Service) attacks.
Mr Wilders has already said that if this were to be the case, his film would be premiered on the Internet. The website which will show the piece has been online since Wednesday.
The government is warning that the latest film, due to be released this month by Geert Wilders, might spark unrest and sanctions similar to those triggered when Danish newspapers published a cartoon of the Prophet Mohamed in 2006. .
The website for the anti-Qur’an film Fitna by Geert Wilders is online under the name fitnathemovie.com
