One in three people believe in angels and one in five believe they have been helped by one, a survey found today.
Women are far more likely to believe in their existence than men.
The poll of more than 2,000 people was carried out for ITV1’s This Morning.
It found that 31% of those surveyed believe in angels and 17% claim to have been helped by one.
But while 43% of women are believers, only 18% of men felt the same way.
When it comes to the issue of life after death, 57% of women are convinced of its existence compared to only 29% of men.
And more than half (52%) of women believe in ghosts compared to 28% of men.
The survey also asked whether mediums can really contact the dead.
One in three people believe they can – 47% of women and 19% of men.
This Morning psychologist Anjula Mutanda said: “Women tend to communicate more about their emotional landscape and could feel more comfortable turning to alternative methods like mediums and angels to find explanations for why things happen.
“Men, on the other hand, look for logic or rational explanation and if they can’t find it are more likely to discard a concept.”
More results from the poll will be revealed on tomorrow’s edition of This Morning.
