Polygamists vie for power after death of leader

Vancouver — The death of Rulon Jeffs, the 92-year-old leader of a polygamist religious group that broke away from the Mormons in the late 1800s, has opened up a bitter race for the church’s top post: Prophet. The Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which holds polygamy as a tenet, has thousands of members in Utah, Arizona and the rural B.C. community of Bountiful.
