Franklin Graham urges religious broadcasters to help re-elect Bush

Charlotte, North Carolina-AP — The Reverend Franklin Graham is urging the National Religious Broadcasters to help re-elect President Bush.

Our View

Though George Bush claims to be a Christian, he wages an illegal war, promotes human rights abuses (e.g. Guantanamo Bay, death penalty), and is involved in other violations of international law. George Bush refuses to be held accountable (see his fight against the International Criminal Court). He has lied – and continues to lie – about the reasons for attacking Iraq. Bush also steals from the poor and gives to the rich. In other words, though he talks the talk, he does not walk the walk of a Christian. Endorsing George Bush merely because he claims to be a Christian is foolish.

The son of evangelist Billy Graham told thousands attending the N-R-B convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, that if Bush is defeated there won’t be anyone to stop the media from broadcasting pornography. He said the kind of entertainment shown during the Super Bowl halftime show will be just the “tip of the iceberg.”

Franklin Graham added that most of the media will “spin” stories against President Bush and for his Democratic rival, so it’s up to religious broadcasters to “back God-fearing candidates” who’ll stand against what he calls the “moral corruption that is coming like a flood against this nation.”
