A district court in India has delivered its sentence for 13 men convicted of murdering Australian missionary Graham Staines and his two sons four years ago.
From New Delhi Simi Chakrabarti reports:
“Dara Singh, the man accused in the murder of Mr Staines and his sons, was sentenced to [the] death penalty by the court. Twelve others, convicted last week, along with Dara Singh, have been sentenced to life imprisonment. Mr Staines and his sons died after the vehicle in which they were sleeping was set ablaze by a mob in the eastern state of Orissa. In sentencing Dara Singh, the judge found him as the central figure in the attacks, the man who led the mob, that required nothing less than the death penalty.”
