The opposition Green Left party has called on the Dutch government to summon the Vatican ambassador to explain the Church’s attack on same-sex marriages. The party finds it unacceptable that Roman Catholic politicians are being pressured to oppose such marriages.

The Green Left party was responding to a Vatican document which describes same-sex marriages as unnatural and a threat to society.

The party says the document is a direct attack against the Netherlands where same-sex marriages are allowed, and contravenes the principle of separation of church and state.
