The Foreign Affairs Ministry is keeping a close eye on the Hong Kong trial of a group of Falun Gong members, which includes a New Zealander.

Jenny Lee, thought to be a Chinese New Zealander, was arrested with six others during a protest in Hong Kong in March.

Ministry spokeswoman Janet Lowe said the group had been charged with obstruction after a demonstration outside a Chinese government office.

“We were concerned, in particular for Jenny Lee, that her case was being handled properly and she had legal representation, which she does,” Ms Lowe said.

The group was being represented by a local solicitor.

“We are watching very closely to see what’s happening. As far as we know, everything seems all right.”
