Religion News Blog — Last week it was reported that a second fingerprint belonging to cult leader Peter Moses Jr. was found on clear tape used to wrap plastic around the remains of a 4-year-old boy.
Moses was charged in June last year with the murder of Jadon Higganbothan, who died from a single gunshot wound to the head.
Now Durham, N.C. ABC affiliate WTVD reports a third fingerprint has been found — this one belonging to another suspect in the case. Like Moses the suspect, thus far unidentified, is already in custody.
Prosecutors last year said they will seek the death penalty against Moses, who is also accused of killing his ex-girlfriend. District Attorney Tracey Cline said Moses killed 28-year-old Antoinetta Yvonne McKoy because he feared she would tell police about the boy’s shooting and also because she wanted to leave their group.
At a court hearing last year, Durham District Attorney Tracey Cline said Moses believed the boy was homosexual and that was unacceptable to his religious beliefs. She said Moses shot Higganbothan in the garage of a home on Pear Tree Lane in front of his mother.
Peter Moses lived at a home in Durham with a number of woman and eight children. All of the children were fathered by Moses except Jadon. Jadon’s mother, Vania Sisk, was one of the women who lived at the home and is also charged with the murder of McKoy.
Police have referred to Moses as the leader of a polygamous religious cult called the ‘Black Hebrews.’ The women and children reportedly feared Moses and referred to him as “Lord.”
Media reports says Vania Sisk told family members the group was going to move to the country and store up guns for a world-ending race war.
A black supremacist wing of the Hebrew Israelite movement believes Jesus Christ will soon return and kill whites, Jews, homosexuals and others, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center.
