The polygamous sect led by Warren Jeffs has taken out apocalyptic quarter-page newspaper ads all over the country.
Lindsay Whitehurts, at the Salt Lake Tribune, says
Labeled as a “Revelation of the Lord Jesus Christ Given to President Warren S. Jeffs,” the ad reads in part: “Repent ye; now be of full humbling; all peoples shall be humbled in full way; as I send full judgements.”
The ad appeared on page A7 of TheSalt Lake Tribune on Friday, and also in the Denver Post and Las Vegas Review-Journal, according to Associated Press reporters; in the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, minnpost.com reported; and in the Nashville Tennessean, paper staff confirmed.
It also showed up in the A sections of The New York Times and the Washington Post. It did not run Friday in the Deseret News, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints-owned newspaper in Salt Lake City. […]
In contrast with previous Jeffs “revelations,” which have foretold earthquakes, fire and tidal waves, the ad is fairly short and does not predict any specific biblical consequences or threats. It does contain an order form to purchase copies of those other revelations.
Vaughan Taylor, a Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints elder, was listed as a contact for inquiries but did not return a call for comment. Taylor and other Jeffs followers have been sending out similar “revelations” since early November in more than a dozen packets posted to libraries and government officials around the country.
Last August Warren Jeffs was sentenced to life plus 20 years in prison after he was convicted of assaulting two girls, ages 12 and 15, in what his polygamous sect refers to as ‘spiritual marriages’ or ‘celestial marriages.’
Despite his conviction and imprisonment Jeffs has been able to maintain an iron grip on his followers. In recent weeks even managed — via his brothers and other leaders of the cult — to tighten and add rules in the lead-up to a purge among the group’s members.
Jeffs — who has proven himself to be a false prophet — has also become something of a creative writer, issuing a flood of what he claims are revelations from Jesus Christ. Most of these revelations amount to doomsday predictions, warning of dire consequences should Jeffs not be released from prison.
Doomsday Map and Revelations Calendar
In her ‘Polygamy Blog’ at the Salt Lake Tribune, Lindsay Whitehurst provides a link to a Google Map showing “google map of all the areas slated for God’s wrath.”
Whitehurts has now added ‘The big Warren Jeffs revelations calendar.’
I’ve read through all the packets received by the Utah Attorney General’s Office (the same ones that have been sent out to the thousands of government officials, librarians, and other people from Missouri to Boston).
In an effort to determine when and how often the revelations are being made, I placed each unique revelation on the Google calendar on the day it was made.
Most, though not all, of the calender entries have a .pdf of the revelation attached.
I also included markers for each day the UTAG got a packet, plus major Warren Jeffs events during the year.
