FLDS member Leroy Johnson Steed sentenced to 7 years on no-contest plea

Leroy Johnson Steed, a member of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, was sentenced to seven years in prison Tuesday morning after pleading no contest to two counts of bigamy and one count of child sexual assault in 51st District Court.

The San Angelo Standard-Times says

Under the plea agreement, Steed may appeal his conviction only on grounds that the indictment should be quashed or that the evidence should be suppressed.

The bigamy counts were second and third degree felonies, and under the agreement the first degree felony enhancement on the sexual assault charge was waived by the state. The sentences were seven years for both bigamy counts and seven years for the child sexual assault charge, to be served concurrently.

A charge of tampering with evidence was dismissed.
