Boy’s body found in ‘cult’ murder case

Late Wednesday morning investigators in Durham, NC, discovered the body of Antoinetta Yvonne McKoy, who was reported missing in February.

Police have charged seven people, including suspected cult leader Peter Moses, in that case.

Now comes news that the body of 5-year-old Jadon Higganbothan, who was last seen in October, has also been located.

ABC affiliate WTVD reports:

Investigators uncovered more human remains Thursday at a home in the 2600 block of Ashe Street and sources say they suspect it’s the body of 5-year-old Jadon Higganbothan.

The news followed the announcement Wednesday of seven murder charges in connection with the death of 28-year-old Antoinetta McKoy. Her body was found Wednesday by a plumber working in the backyard the home.

McKoy and Higganbothan were both last seen alive last year. The Ashe Street home is located a few miles from another home on Pear Tree Lane where McKoy and Higganbothan lived with a cult group known as the “Black Hebrew Israelites.” […]

ABC11 sources confirm the Ashe Street home was once the rental property of Moses’ mother.

Police believe the cult’s leader, Peter Moses, was involved in the deaths of both McKoy and Higganbothan.

Meanwhile the News & Observer reports that the last two suspects in the murder case turned themselves in on Friday:

Vania Sisk and Larhonda Smith joined five people already behind bars. All seven suspects are in Durham County Jail without bonds.

The Associated Press says:

Police have said they believe McKoy and Jadon’s mother, 25-year-old Vania Rae Sisk, were members of a polygamist sect. […]

Court documents say that a former sect member, who wasn’t identified, had told investigators that McKoy and the boy had been killed. The documents say the former member reported that Moses became angry with the boy and took him to the basement. He said he then heard the sound of a gunshot.

He said Moses put the body in a suitcase, which he eventually disposed of after leaving it in the attic until the body began to stink.
