Vedic City may be nearly one-fourth of the way toward its goal of 8,000 residents this summer. The city council announced Maharishi University of Management will construct six modular dormitories in Vedic City to house 1,600 Vedic pundits and service employees.

Construction on the dorms, which will be located in the western part of the city, is expected to be completed this summer. The pundits, who are teachers, are expected to arrive from India after the dorms are completed. The added residents would bring the city’s population to 1,800, which is the “super radiance” number of TM-Sidhis practitioners, or yogic flyers, needed for the United States, according to Mayor Bob Wynne.

“The square root of 1 percent of the population in scientific research has proven on many occasions to reduce war and violence,” said city attorney Maureen Wynne.

The super radiance number for the world’s population is 8,000, she said. Though there are other flying groups being put into place in India, the university is purposely housing a group in the United States to ease tensions between the U.S. and Iraq, she said.

“It’s extremely important in these very volatile times to have that [group],” Maureen Wynne said.
