BERN, Switzerland — Around 700 Swiss Muslims peacefully protested against their country’s minaret ban on Saturday, with speakers denouncing what they called a hate campaign against Islam, AP reports.
The protest in the capital, Bern, was not supported by the country’s main Muslim organizations.
Our view:
Minarets are not a requirement for the practice of Islam. Too, Muslims should understand that a democratic process in which free people freely vote one way or another should not be equated with a hate campaign.
