April preliminary hearing set in Brian Edgar murder case

A two-day preliminary hearing in April was scheduled today for the Kansas City, Kan., church leaders charged with killing their son.

Johnson County District Judge John Bennett set the hearing for April 17 and 18 for
Neil Edgar Sr. appeared in District Court 18 at the Johnson County Courthouse on Thursday. He is charged with murder in the death of his son.

Chasity Boyd, the Edgars’ baby sitter who’s also charged with murder in the case, was in court Thursday as well.

Brian died of asphyxiation after being bound and gagged the night of Dec. 29, according to autopsy reports.

Prosecutors will present evidence at the preliminary hearing. If the judge determines that the evidence is sufficient, he will order a trial.

The Edgars, who led God’s Creation Outreach Ministry, are being held in the Johnson County jail on $1 million bonds. Boyd is being held on a $2 million bond.

Christy Edgar, who along with husband Neil also is charged with murder in Brian Edgar’s death, also was in court Thursday.

Chasity Boyd, the Edgars’ baby sitter who’s also charged with murder in the case, was in court Thursday as well.
