PURI: Yoga guru Ramdev on Tuesday stressed the need for the development of religious tourism in the country.

The yoga guru, who arrived to have a darshan of Lord Jagannath, said this while telling a civic reception accorded to him on his maiden visit to the abode of lord Jagannath.

Ramdev said Orissa in general and Puri in particular is deeply connected with the religious roots of the Sanatan religion adding that some thing should be done to improve the conditions of all the shrines of the country as they represented ”our glorious past”.

He announced that a unit of Patanjali yoga Peeth would be established in the city soon.

Asking the people to perform Pranayam every day, the yoga guru said the pranayam has tremendous power to heal various diseases, help rejuvenate the molecular body and energise them into a forceful unit.

The world, Ramdev said, would soon be attracted to Indian yoga as it has proved beneficial to those practicing it.”our ancient sages and gurus have dedicated their life to the welfare of the human beings” and it was their codified knowledge that is being rejuvenated he said.

Among others Puri king Gajapati Divyasingh Dev and Orissa assembly speaker Maheswar Mohanty addressed the gatherings.

Earlier in the morning Ramdev went to the Jagannath temple and offered prayers to the three presiding deities of the Jagannath temple.
