Sect warned over doomsday prophesy

The Government has warned members of a religious sect to stop causing panic in Nyandarua District.

The Nyandarua District Commissioner, Mr Khamasi Shivogo, said the Government would ensure that the House of Yahweh sect, which had predicted that Tuesday would be the end of the world, did not instil fear in the district.

The followers had said they were preparing for the apocalypse by building bunkers and selling their property.

Speaking to journalists in his office in Nyahururu town, the DC, however, said the members of the sect had continued with their normal activities. “

They took their children to school and we have not seen them selling their property; but we are monitoring them,” he said.

Shivogo also said the members, who are mostly based in Murungaru village in North Kinangop, did not dig bunkers to allegedly protect themselves from nuclear war.

Shivogo said the Constitution guaranteed the freedom of worship as long as there was no breach of peace.
