KINGMAN – The brother of jailed polygamous sect leader Warren Jeffs was arrested in northwestern Arizona.
The Mohave County sheriff’s office says 38-year-old John Jeffs of Colorado City was booked for investigation of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, both misdemeanors.
The sheriff’s office says john Jeffs was sitting in a vehicle outside a residence when deputies arrived Friday evening in response to a call to check on the welfare of his 11-year-old son.
It says Jeffs wouldn’t cooperate with deputies and allow them to speak to the boy, who was inside the residence.
After Jeffs was arrested, deputies talked to the youngster and determined he was OK.
Meanwhile, Warren Jeffs is expected to face his initial court appearance in Utah this afternoon.
The 50-year-old Jeffs is facing felony sex charges involving an arranged marriage between an underage girl and an older man that carry a maximum penalty of life in prison.
