Shane Lynch has become the latest name to quit ITV reality show Love Island.
Shane Lynch has become the latest name to quit ITV reality show Love Island.
The former Boyzone star and born-again Christian made the decision after spending the day reading the bible.
He is leaving the Fijian island for a mystery woman, whom he dated in the past.
His departure from the show, which has been hit by disappointing viewing figures, follows that of MTV star Steve-O, glamour model Alicia Douvall and basketball legend Dennis Rodman.
The 29-year-old, who once confessed to bedding 100 women while in Boyzone, said he had come to the conclusion that “there is no woman like a woman I know back home”.
He said: “I need to put the mistakes right. To cut a long story short, my time has come and I need to leave this place.
“It’s been confirmed in my heart and I don’t want to wade it out in here and mosey on back and say ‘by the way, I really wanted to leave but I didn’t’.
“That doesn’t work for me. The truth is there’s somebody who really owns my heart and that’s where it lies right now.”
His announcement prompted tears from Sophie Anderton, but the model wasted no time in finding another man to flirt with.
Former Hollyoaks actor Lee Otway also sobbed uncontrollably at news of Shane’s departure, saying: “I don’t want you to go. I don’t want you to go, I need you here.”
His decision came hours after Calum Best, who enjoyed a fling with Sophie in the past, returned to the island after appearing in the first series.
But Sophie said it was another ex – Chris Brosnan – who was occupying her thoughts.
She said: “I have kind of started liking someone. I have started liking Chris which was inevitable really.
“I just love his sense of humour and the ease I have around him and I can be myself and he adores me for who I am whereas with Shane it’s difficult, it’s like treading on egg shells.
“In the last week we were getting more tactile, more huggy and stuff – I don’t know. Last night I kissed him goodnight and he kissed me on the lips.”
