Rebel Catholic priest backs Milingo call

Kenyan rebel Catholic priest, Fr Godfrey Shiundu, has welcomed controversial former Zambian Archbishop Emmanuel Milingo’s latest call on the Catholic Church to allow its clergy to marry.

Shiundu on Wednesday described Milingo’s appeal as a “voice from God”, adding that the Vatican should listen to him.

“I agree with Milingo because what he is saying is important,” he told The Standard in Eldoret.

Milingo, the alleged faith healer who married in the Rev Sun Myung Moon’s Unification Church in 2001 but later returned to the Catholic Church, was last week quoted as calling on the Vatican to allow priests to marry.

Milingo held a news conference in Washington, US, to say that his new mission was to persuade the Vatican to allow priests to marry. Shiundu caused a stir on May 14 when he wedded his long-time fiancE`e, Stella Nangila, at the Kitale showground, sparking off condemnation from the Catholic Church.
