White Supremacist Group Threatens to Sue Library for Blocking Meeting

AP, Nov. 26, 2002

Rosedale – Members of a white supremacist group says the Baltimore County library system is violating their constitutional rights by blocking their planned recruitment meeting at the public library in Rosedale.

The group, called World Church of the Creator, is threatening to take the library system to court.

The Virginia leader of the group, the Reverend John King, says the library’s decision is purely political. But library Director James Fish says there is nothing unconstitutional about the library’s decision.

The group had scheduled the meeting for December 14th. But Fish says officials refused the group’s request for a meeting room out of concerns about the safety of library staff and patrons.

Fish says the group has visited other libraries around the country and situations have arisen requiring police to be involved. Protesters and World Church supporters clashed after a speech at a library in York, Pennsylvania this spring.
