Two LDS missionaries shot going door to door in Virginia

An LDS missionary from Bountiful and a fellow missionary from Greeley, Colo., were shot Monday night while going door to door in Chesapeake, Va., police said.

Reports varied as to their condition. ABC News reported late Monday that the two were in intensive care.

The two are Morgan Young, 21, of Bountiful, and Joshua Heidbrink, of Greeley, according to LDS Church spokesman Michael Purdy.

The attacks happened just after 6 p.m., police said, when a man approached them, shot them and ran away.

One of the victims ran to a nearby nursing home seeking help, police said.

Both victims were taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Police described the gunman as about 5-foot-10 and wearing a black hooded sweat shirt and denim jeans.

Police shut down part of the neighborhood while searching for the man.

”This is close to home,” said Bobby Gatling, who said he has lived on the block for two years. ”Nothing like this has ever happened here before.”

There was no immediate word on what prompted the shootings.
