White supremacist speaks out

A Portland member of the World Church of the Creator, a white supremacist group that wants to rid Lewiston of its Somali population, is making his case.

David Stearns has been a member of the World Church for more than two years. He is working to organize a meeting in Lewiston in January that he claims will draw hundreds of “racial loyalists” to the city with the purpose of uniting white people against the Somalis. Stearns says the church’s only interests lies in what is best for the white race. But Steve Wessler, an expert on hate crime at the Uiversity of Southern Maine, says the World Church of the Creator is one of the worst hate groups in the country. His advice to the people of Lewiston is to counteract the group’s message. As of Thursday night, the city of Lewiston is still considering the World Church application.
