Vietnam police arrest “billionaire monk” for fraud

Hanoi police arrested Thursday a self-proclaimed monk and medical practitioner for defrauding patients of money.

They raided the house of Le Quoc Ho, 53, who had a few days ago complained to them about being burgled of US$2.5 billion in cash and other valuables, took him away, and charged him with illegally operating as a doctor to cheat patients.

The police said that from Ho’s house in Long Bien District, they confiscated some medical devices and CD-ROMs instructing disease treatment.

They also found some bank savings account certificates, two stamps bearing the name of the International Buddhist Church, and 10 identity certificates carrying his name.
