Holmes and Cruise expecting

In news that will not delight those behind the Free Katie Holmes web campaign, the 27-year-old actor has announced she is expecting a baby with Tom Cruise.

Cruise, 43, last seen in Last Samurai and War of the Worlds, has attracted considerable public and media ridicule for his very vigorous and public declarations of love for the Batman Begins star since the pair’s romance began earlier this year.

A notorious appearance on the Oprah Winfrey TV show saw Cruise – who has previously been known for jealously guarding his privacy – leaping up and down on a sofa yelling: “I’m in love!” Cruise and Holmes then announced their engagement at a press conference in Paris in June (following an Eiffel Tower-top proposal).

Cruise has been married twice before, first to actor Mimi Rogers and then most famously to Nicole Kidman, with whom he starred in three movies including Stanley Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut. Cruise and Kidman, who have a son and an adopted daughter together, divorced in 2001 after 10 years of marriage.

No due date for the baby has been given but freekatie.net, not to be confused with freekatie.com, has already added “Free Baby” products to its merchandise.
