CARACAS, Sept. 4 (Xinhuanet) — Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said on Sunday he received a letter of apology from US evangelist Pat Robertson, who last month made a call for the United States to assassinate him.
Chavez accepted Robertson’s apologies during his Sunday TV program, but warned that he could still proceed to file charges against the religious broadcaster.
The president said Robertson should publish the letter and face the charges that may be filed by Venezuela.
On Aug. 22, Robertson said in a Christian TV program that “eliminating” Chavez would be “cheaper than going to a war like inIraq.”
But two days later he said his remarks were misinterpreted and expressed apologies.
The Venezuelan government said it will take the case to the United Nations and the Organization of American States if the “terrorist” threat from Robertson does not receive a judicial treatment.
