BESUT, Sat. – Expecting another raid by the State Religious Affairs Department and the police today, cult leader Ariffin Mohamad a.k.a. Ayah Pin placed barbed wire along the perimeter of his ‘Sky Kingdom‘.

His followers were also seen guarding the access road and checking the identities of everyone entering the area at Kampung Batu 13.

Several cars were seen entering the compound and by 7pm, some 100 followers had gathered.

In a raid on July 2, 21 followers were detained by the religious affairs department, including a police inspector from Perak and a member of a popular local rock group.

A coffeeshop owner, who declined to be named, said it was unusual for Ayah Pin’s followers to venture out of the “Sky Kingdom” or to guard the road.

“Today, they seemed suspicious of everyone. They even drank coffee at my shop. They have never done that before,” the owner said.

Reporters were also not allowed to go anywhere near the compound and checks showed that all public telephones in the area had been damaged.

A villager close to the sect’s followers said the usual weekend prayers which normally began at 8.30pm had been put off till midnight.

The ritual includes ushering Ayah Pin from the main building to a concrete boat in the compound in which he would lie. His followers would then start chanting.

“The followers are not locals. They are expected to chant for Ayah Pin until 4am,” said the villager.
