While news of Tom Cruise seems to be centering around his budding romance with young actress Katie Holmes as well as his upcoming movies like War of the Worlds and Mission Impossible III, the actor did take some time out of his busy press schedule to blast Brooke Shields for taking Paxil. The New York Daily News reports that Scientology evangelist Cruise told Access Hollywood that Shields was misguided when she took the anti-depressant to fight postpartum depression after giving birth.

It has been 25 years since Cruise played minor actor to Brooke Shields star in teen romance Endless Love, but the tables have turned, at least according to Cruise. “Here is a woman, and I care about Brooke Shields because I think she is an incredibly talented woman,” said Cruise who preaches the Church of Scientology’s disapproval of all mind-altering drugs. “You look at, where has her career gone?”
Shields, for her part, is currently starring in the London production of Chicago and has recently released Down Came the Rain, a new book about her battle with depression. Yet, Cruise appears to believe that vitamins may somehow help her career.
“These drugs are dangerous. I have actually helped people come off,” Cruise explained. “When you talk about postpartum, you can take people today, women, and what you do is you use vitamins. There is a hormonal thing that is going on, scientifically, you can prove that. But when you talk about emotional, chemical imbalances in people, there is no science behind that. You can use vitamins to help a woman through those things.”
