Japan ex-cultist gets 8-year term

TOKYO — A former doomsday cult member who built a factory that produced the kind of nerve gas used in the deadly attack on Tokyo’s subways was sentenced yesterday to eight years in prison.

Kazuyoshi Takizawa, 27, was convicted of preparing for murder.

He told the Tokyo District Court he was only following the orders of Shoko Asahara, leader of the Aum Shinri Kyo cult, when he built the factory to produce sarin nerve gas at the cult’s Mount Fuji commune.
