Bountiful A polygamous sect in Bountiful, B.C. under scrutiny for its treatment of women has used its young men and women as a cheap source of labour, according to court documents and a former church member.

Dozens of young people – some from the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints sect in Bountiful but others from the United States – were sent to Sundre, Alta. to work for a post, timber and logging operation.

Frederick Merril Jessop The trial of Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints former bishop Fredrick Merril Jessop on a charge of conducting an illegal ceremony will be held in Coke County.

Jessop was indicted on charges that he conducted a ceremony prohibited by law by marrying an underage girl to Warren Jeffs, the church head of the FLDS in 2006.

ABC News yesterday reported that Jeffs is in a coma is may not survive, but the Associated Press says an anonymous sources told them the coma was medically induced and that Jeffs is expected to survive.

Jeffs, 55, had been fasting for the past three days and became so weak that doctors at the Texas prison where he is serving a life sentence induced a coma, according to the source.

In his appeal, Michael Emack claimed the search warrant used to gather the evidence against him was illegally obtained because the raid on the FLDS’ Yearning For Zion ranch was based on a hoax call.
