The former president of a polygamous sect pleaded no contest to three counts of third-degree bigamy this week and was sentenced to 10 years probation. Wendell Loy Nielsen, who was once president of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, had been indicted after a raid on the Yearning for Zion Ranch in April 2008.

Warren Jeffs, the leader of the polygamist FLDS, sect has recovered from illnesses that sent him hopping to prison units and hospitals around Texas. Because of fasts and other unspecified medical conditions, Jeffs needed medical treatment shortly after he was sentenced in early August to life plus 20 years in prison.

Jessop was indicted on charges that he conducted a ceremony prohibited by law by marrying an underage girl to Warren Jeffs, the church head of the FLDS in 2006.
