Officers of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police force will be in Texas from Dec. 12 to 16 to gather information about underage Canadian girls believed to have been victimized by Warren Jeffs, the convicted pedophile and leader of a fundamentalist Mormon group. Earlier this year, RCMP contacted Texas authorities after learning of 31 child brides with connections to Bountiful.

A judge in British Columbia has decided that Canada’s ban of polygamy does not violate the country’s Charter of Rights. B.C. Supreme Court Chief Justice Robert Bauman issued his decision Wednesday, saying that while the ban does indeed violate the freedom-of-religion rights of those practising polygamy, polygamy brings such harm to women and children that they outweigh those rights.

Imprisoned polygamous sect leader Warren Jeffs has released a series of so-called revelations in which he says a succession of natural disasters will strike the U.S. In one of the five separate “revelations,” Jeffs writes that Jesus Christ will make his coming known with a “great tsunami of the sea” on the East Coast; earthquakes and volcanoes in “populated places” in Utah and Arizona; a tidal wave in Seattle; and melting in Idaho “to cleanse my land of all evil.”

Utah prosecutors dropped charges Wednesday against FLDS sect leader Warren Jeffs, who is serving a life sentence in Texas in a separate case. “As a result of the conviction in Texas, we decided not to bring him back to Utah for a re-trial,” said Brian Filter, senior deputy attorney for Washington County.

Warren Jeffs, the leader of the polygamist FLDS, sect has recovered from illnesses that sent him hopping to prison units and hospitals around Texas. Because of fasts and other unspecified medical conditions, Jeffs needed medical treatment shortly after he was sentenced in early August to life plus 20 years in prison.
