A former religious cult member who helped starve her son to death believes he will be resurrected, but legal experts say her extreme faith doesn’t make her criminally insane.

The boy died more than two years ago when cult members stopped feeding him because he refused to say “Amen” after a meal, according to a statement of facts.

Accepting a plea bargain that her attorney described as unprecedented in American jurisprudence, a 22-year-old Maryland woman yesterday agreed to cooperate in the prosecution of other defendants in the death of her son under the condition that charges against her be dropped if the child rises from the dead.

As part of her probation, the woman must submit to treatment, including sessions with an expert on cult behavior.

Members of One Mind Ministries drew little notice in the working-class Baltimore neighborhood where they lived in a nondescript brick rowhouse.

But inside, prosecutors say, horrors were unfolding: Answering to a leader called Queen Antoinette, they denied a 16-month-old boy food and water because he did not say “Amen” at mealtimes. After he died, they prayed over his body for days, expecting a resurrection, then packed it into a suitcase with mothballs. They left it in a shed in Philadelphia, where it remained for a year before detectives found it last spring.

In an unusual development for a murder case, an alleged member of a religious cult accused in the starvation death of a toddler was released from custody Monday and will remain free with minimal supervision until trial.

Four other members of the now-defunct 1 Mind Ministries remain held without bail.

Two women were ordered held without bail yesterday on charges that they participated in the starvation death of a child whom they considered a “demon” because he wouldn’t say amen after his meals, according to police charging documents.

Police say Antoinette was the leader of a cult and that Williams was one of her followers; each is charged with first-degree murder.

From the moment that Ria Ramkissoon and her baby boy Javon joined the tiny religious cult, 1 Mind Ministries, in April 2006, her life would change irrevocably.

Now, the 21-year-old woman is sitting in the psychiatric unit of a city jail in Baltimore accused by police of slowly starving her son to death and allowing cult members to beat him for disobeying orders such as saying “amen” at meals.

Court documents say cult members starved the toddler to death and kept his remains in a suitcase for more than a year, until Baltimore homicide detectives found the body in Philadelphia.

The leader of 1 Mind Ministries, who identifies herself as Queen Antoinette, had a problem with Javon, who a police source in court papers said would not comply with the group’s ritual of saying “amen” after meals.

Court papers say that the more Queen Antoinette pressed the toddler, the more resistant he became and that he was subsequently deprived of food and water as punishment.

Police and prosecutors say the three are connected to the religious group 1 Mind Ministries, which operated for a time in East Baltimore.

“The child was abused because Javon was noncompliant with the existing rules of the ‘cult,’ ” the records state. “The child was also viewed as a ‘demon.’ ”

Two women and one man connected to the religious group 1 Mind Ministries in Baltimore have been arrested in New York City on a warrant charging them with failing to appear in court in Baltimore, according to court records and authorities.

Ramkissoon had inside access to the group who tried to recruit him. He says they target young people with children.

The handful of people identified in court records as being associated with 1 Mind Ministries had ambitious plans to launch businesses all over the city including a clothing line called J.C. Apparel with the slogan “Don’t be shamed to rock his name, Jesus Christ!” according to state records.

Relatives of a Baltimore woman whose toddler son disappeared after she joined a small religious organization two years ago are now awaiting word on whether a body found in a suitcase behind a South Philadelphia rowhouse belongs to the boy.

Khadan does not know the name of the group but said its members identify themselves as Christian and do not believe in health care or formal education. She said that she fears that the boy was starved to death for some reason.
