St John Apostolic Faith Mission: Eight mentally ill patients at the St John's Apostolic Faith Mission Church in Etwatwa, east of Johannesburg, have been unshackled following pressure from the department of health. Earlier reports said church officials had shackled the patients as a means of curing them from their mental illness.

St John Apostolic Faith Mission: Johannesburg - A church on the East Rand has apparently been keeping people in shackles on church grounds for the past couple of years "to drive their demons out".

St John Apostolic Faith Mission: The Central Gauteng Mental Health Society (CGMHS) has lodged a complaint with the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) relating to the shackling of at least eight mentally ill patients by the St. John's Apostolic Faith Mission Church in Etwatwa, east of Johannesburg.
