Police: Spiritual cleansing with raw eggs leads to rape

A 36-year-old spiritual healer has been arrested on suspicion of raping a woman during a cleansing with raw eggs, police said.

Alberto Flores Ramirez was taken into custody Tuesday and booked at the Santa Ana City Jail on suspicion of rape and making criminal threats, both felonies, Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said according to the Orange County Register.

The 33-year-old woman is in the U.S. on a tourist visa visiting her son, who studies in California.

She met Ramirez on Badoo, a social networking site. She told him that she has two daughters in Mexico being cared for by their father, and that she wanted to bring her family together.

Ramirez told her he could help her with that if she underwent a “spiritual cleansing” ritual, Bertagna says.

Los Angeles TV station KABC reports

Karina and Ramirez met for dinner. Then Ramirez took her to a Santa Ana motel, claiming he needed a quiet place to perform the ritual.

The spiritual healing involves the healer using an egg to cure physical or spiritual illnesses.

After the procedure, Karina says Ramirez broke the egg and read a message.

“He broke the eggs and two glasses for the water, and he tells me it’s bad. ‘You have bad energy.’ He tell me you need another cleaning but the second time, you need to take off your clothes,” said Karina.

The woman was uncomfortable with that, but eventually agreed to strip down to her underwear, Bertagna said.

Flores-Ramirez put an egg in his mouth and when he got close to her genitals, she got scared and told him to stop, leading him to choke and threaten her before raping her, Bertagna alleged.

The Orange County Register writes

The victim reported the rape to police.

The victim, who was working with detectives, convinced Ramirez to meet her Tuesday in Santa Ana in order to complete the ritual, Bertagna said, adding that detectives were waiting for him.
Ramirez is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail and has an immigration hold.

Anyone who had contact with Ramirez or may have been a victim was urged to call Orange County Crime Stoppers at 855-TIP-OCCS or visit occrimestoppers.org.
