ExorcismRNB's Religion News Blog:
According to court documents, Fort Wayne, Indiana resident Latisha Lawson, 31, forced a mixture of oil and vinegar to her children because she believed they were both demon possessed, WANE reports.

Lawson’s daughter Kierra King, 10, vomited when given the mixture. Her son Jezaih King, 3, was given the oil and vinegar three times. On the third time, Lawson told detectives she held Jezaih’s mouth shut for about 10 minutes until he stopped breathing.

After Jezaih died, Kierra said Latisha Lawson placed him on a bed and had her view his body and pray over him.

She is charged with three counts of neglect of a dependent and two counts of battery.

Though Jan David Clark admits to killing his wife during an attempted exorcism in February 2008, he maintains he never intended to harm the woman he “loved and spoiled” for 17 years.

“That was not a willing thing that took place,” Clark, 63, recalled in a jailhouse interview Tuesday. “As far as I’m concerned, it’s still a supernatural thing.”

After more than two years of delays, Clark is scheduled to be tried this fall on murder charges in connection with the death of 59-year-old Susan K. Clark.

According to court filings, Clark told investigators he held his wife’s face to the floor of their bathroom when the exorcized spirit from her body entered his, causing him to kill his wife.

Investigators found Susan Clark wrapped in a bed sheet on her back with a cross and a sword atop her body. Preliminary autopsy results revealed she had been suffocated, court documents show.

Clark said he regrets attempting the exorcism alone, noting a group effort would have been more appropriate.

Police were later called in and a relative was arrested 24 hours later when he surrendered at a police station.

Catholic ChurchExorcismRNB's Religion News Blog:
As a fully authorized exorcist of the Catholic Church, Fr. Thomas Euteneuer has performed dozens of full exorcisms over the last seven years.

He recently told a congregation in Florida the ritual is methodical and precise: The demon is required to name itself, indicate the sign of its departure and state what retains it in the possessed body.

“It’s kind of like a prosecution in a courtroom a criminal interrogated in the name of Jesus,” he said. “You work patiently and undo whatever has been done one by one.”
