Moon ban and religious freedom
The Reverend Sun Myung Moon has failed in his latest attempt to lift the ban on him coming to Britain.
The Home Secretary, David Blunkett, believes a visit from the 84-year-old leader of the Unification Church – or Moonies – would revitalise the movement in Britain and lead to “undesirable methods of recruitment”. A recent appeal to the immigration authority adjudicator to overturn his decision has been rejected.
There are concerns that the ruling has implications for other faith groups in Britain including Muslims and Hindus.
