Mark Malvitz, a pastor throughout the 1990s in Lodi, Morada and Stockton who is being sued in Sacramento County on allegations of spiritual abuse, fraud and using church members’ account numbers, was assaulted after a service last week, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department said.
Malvitz, 38, was hit by a man and a woman in the parking lot of Church on the Rock, located on Main Avenue in Orangevale, sheriff’s spokeswoman Sharon Telles said.
Malvitz was attacked in the parking lot after his Thursday night service, Telles said. The man yelled to Malvitz, “You are going to hell.”
Malvitz was not very talkative with sheriff’s deputies. He identified his assailants by first name only and said he had not seen them in seven years, Telles said.
Malvitz founded New Life Center on Rimby Avenue in Lodi in 1989. He renamed the church New Life Christian Center and moved to North West Lane between Lodi and Stockton before becoming pastor of Resurrection Christian Church in Morada.
The lawsuit was filed May 5 in Sacramento County Superior Court.
