Apologetics Index moves to new server

Apologetics Index, Netherlands

An in-house news item:

Apologetics Index, the parent site of Religion News Blog, is moving to a new server…

Recently, we moved Religion News Blog to a new website hosting company. The move was made because the site had, according to a technician, become “too popular” for our former host provider.

While Religion News Blog quickly outgrew its share of our former host’s MYSQL database server, which crashed repeatedly, Apologetics Index has been having its own problems. Huge visitor numbers contributed to ‘server strain,’ which is why visitors frequently saw a “maximum treshold reached” error. In addition, every month since last January Apologetics Index has been precariously close to reaching its monthly 30GB bandwidth limit. And this month, our host has let us know that we will run out of our allotted bandwidth before the current month is over (which means the site would be unceremoniously suspended until May 1st).

Religion News Blog currently runs on a hosting package that buys us lots of space, bandwidth and resources that should keep the site happy for a while. (I should also mention that customer and tech support provided by our new host – midPhase – is, well, superb. In several decades online, I have seen nothing like it).

Currently, we are in the process of moving Apologetics Index to a similar hosting package – which, incidentally, is different from those shown at midPhase’s front page. (We use a reseller account for both Religion News Blog and Apologetics Index).

It may take anywhere from 48-72+ hours from our address change to propate to DNS (domain name servers) around the world. During the next few days, should you receive an error message when trying to visit Apologetics Index, it is likely that

  • your local DNS server has not yet been updated, and
  • that it has therefore sent your browser to the old address, and
  • that the site at the old address was shut down for exceeding the 30GB/month traffic limit.

Once your local DNS server is updated, you’ll see Apologetics Index at its new location.

You will not have to update bookmarks and web links.

Note: While is is not expensive, our budget is such that we simply can not afford these hosting account upgrades. As always, we provide our websites free of charge, and don’t want anyone to feel any pressure to donate. However, we do rely on donations to keep Apologetics Index and Religion News Blog going. If you are able and willing to help, please
