Maharishi Vedic City Growing And Developing For Its Citizens
(Maharishi Vedic City, Iowa)–Many new things are beginning to shape up for the 200 or so citizens who have already made Maharishi Vedic City in Southeast Iowa their home. “It’s so exciting. It’s been our dream for so many years to have the city develop. We’ve had the goal of developing toward 8,000 residents. We are seeing a lot of good progress in that direction,” says Maureen Wynne, City Attorney.
In a recent city council meeting officials approved contracts for expanding its university campus housing, a more than $200,000 sewer construction project and signed a new contract for its wastewater treatment plant. “It’s very satisfying for the city because we have wanted our city expanded and developed. We’ve learned detailed planning from our state and federal agencies. It’s really exciting to be growing into this new city,” says Dr. Kent Boyum of Maharishi Vedic City.
City officials hope to almost double the size of their current population with Vedic Scholars who will be moving in from India. They also plan to built about 45 new buildings in the city within the next couple of months. “Many people around the area have been very positive,” says Boyum.
Another developing site in Maharishi Vedic City is their newly built organic farms where they have already begun growing crops to have available as produce in grocery stores in the near future. “I think Vedic City is a knowledge-based community. There are a lot of new approaches to health, education, agriculture, the way buildings are built and these things are all designed to promote the health, happiness of the most progressive community that we have developed,” adds Wynne.
