Shun cultism, exam malpractices, rector advises fresh students
Rector of the Federal Polytechnic,Oko, Professor Uba Nwuba, has advised new intakes to shun cultism and examination malpractices if they must make a successful career in the school.
Nwuba, who addressed no fewer than 7,000 fresh students of the polytechnic at the weekend, advised them to avoid and abhor cultism “as it was capable of destroying the youth.”
“If anyone is forcing you to join, report immediately to the polytechnic authority or the anti cult squad,” he advised, adding that the students should shun examination malpratices and misconduct “because if caught you will be thrown out of the polytechnic.”
Nwuba advised them to make hardwork and fear of God their watch word.
He said that the motto of the polytechnic is “creativity and service” and that the students were trained to render excellency for service of mankind.
He told the students that their training constitutes 70 per cent of practical work and 30 per cent theory adding that the polytechnic teachers must strive to meet up with their work schedule.
Nwuba regretted that our nation’s economy titled towards commerce and service with little being geared towards production.
According to him, the emancipation of the nation’s economy lay on production rather than importation of products.
He, therefore, advised then to begin now to dream of changing the tread.
