Celestine Prophecy destined for big screen

NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) – Thomas Kretschmann, star of “The Pianist”, has signed on to star with Sarah Wayne Callies and Matthew Settle in the big-screen adaptation of James Redfield‘s best-selling New Age novel “The Celestine Prophecy.”

He will play Will, an outdoorsman and guide who also is a mystic. The film follows a spiritual search in a Peruvian rain forest for a long-lost manuscript containing insights into the nature of human existence. Also joining “Celestine” are Hector Elizondo, Jurgen Prochnow and Joaquim de Almeida.

Armand Mastroianni (“Touched by an Angel”) is directing the indie project from a script adapted by Redfield with Barnet Bain. “Celestine” begins shooting next month.

Kretschmann — whose credits also include John Duigan’s upcoming “Head in the Clouds,” with Charlize Theron and Penelope Cruz — additionally joined the cast of the vampire feature “Perfect Creature.”

The film, which stars Dougray Scott and Saffron Burrows, centers on a human cop and a vampire who team up to stop a rogue vampire intent on creating a war between the two races. It is in preproduction, with New Zealand writer-director Glenn Standring at the helm.
