Former Priest Faces $20 Million Dollar Lawsuit
|
Father Alfredo Prado, a former San Antonio priest on the run from the church now he faces a $20-million dollar lawsuit from a man who says Prado molested him years ago. News 4 WOAI Trouble Shooter Brian Collister has this follow up on the investigation.
More than 30 years ago Ricardo and his family attended St. Timothys Church on the West side. 14 year old Ricardo turned to Prado after he had an argument with his father. But Ricardo says instead of helping him Prado gave him a glass of brandy, seduced him, and then raped him, He had his hands all over me, down the front of my pants. The extent of the damage this did to me, I still feel to this day. Ricardo recounts.
Since our Investigation the Trouble Shooters have learned Ricardo has filed a lawsuit in California where he now lives. That state recently made an exception in the statute of limitations on abuse cases involving priests. Ricardo is seeking $20 million dollars in damages from Prado and the Oblate Order of the Catholic Church.
Prado, who joined a cult in Costa Rica, denies the charges. We asked him about the alleged abuse, What about the charges in Texas? Collister asks. They’re all false, they’re nonsense. says Prado.
The Trouble Shooters called the attorney for the Oblate Order of the Catholic Church but our call was not returned. Ricardo’s attorney believes they can still pursue the case in California even though the alleged abuse happened here. We’ll keep tabs on the case.
