Sect members arrested
MUNICH. The Bavarian state police say they have thwarted a planned contract murder of a local politician in Austria by three German members of a sect operating out of a yoga school near Salzburg.
A police spokesman said on Tuesday that the three had made a first payment of EUR5,000 to an underworld figure to have the mayor of the town of Kufstein, Siegfried Dillersberger, killed because as a lawyer he was representing a client locked in a dispute with the school.
The alleged plot was discovered as part of a drug investigation, the spokesman said. The accused – an unemployed female special education teacher, 37, a male music school teacher, 42, and a 40-year-old woman whose occupation was not divulged – are all from southern Germany and now in investigative custody.
