Frank Hsieh, Taipei prosecutor trade blows
The China Post (Taiwan), July 12, 2003

Kaohsiung Mayor Frank Hsieh and a Taipei prosecutor who cracked down on the cult of his spiritual mentor, Sung Chi-li, in the ’90s, have been trading verbal blows.
Hsieh has seldom talked about the Sung case since the cult leader was indicted on fraud charges, but the mayor has openly criticized Prosecutor Hsueh Wei-ping after a Control Yuan report Wednesday found fault with the probe into the cult.
The mayor claims that the prosecutor, who was in charge of the investigation, used to have a “special working relationship” with Melody Chu, who first uncovered the Sung cult’s alleged fraud.
Hsieh said Hsueh and Chu ¡X the former Taipei City councilor disgraced in a hidden cam sex video in 2000 ¡X used to work at the same company, but the prosecutor failed to avoid a conflict of interest allegation when taking charge of the probe.
The mayor also accuses the prosecutor of lying about his relationship with Chu while being interviewed by a watchdog member, Liao Chien-nan, who made the reproach in the Wednesday report.
The watchdog reproached the prosecution and police for leaking details of their probe to the press, leading to the Interior Ministry’s premature revocation of the license for Sung’s religious group.
But Hsueh has dismissed Hsieh’s accusations, saying he never once met Chu.
He has questioned the integrity of the Control Yuan member, Liao, who he alleged might have leaked details of the watchdog probe to Hsieh.
