Devil worship claim in killing of mother

A woman was killed by her estranged husband and their two children because they believed she was a devil worshipper, a Sydney court was told today.

The woman, who cannot be named, was stabbed to death and had surgical scissors inserted up her nose into her brain outside her Glossodia home in north-west Sydney on October 16 last year, prosecutor Patrick Barrett told the NSW Supreme Court.

The father, 40, his son, 18, and daughter, 16, who also cannot be named, all pleaded not guilty to murdering the woman on the grounds of mental illness.

Mr Barrett said the father told police his wife deserved to die because she was a devil worshipper, the daughter thought her mother was a demon, and the son believed she was connected with Satan.
The trial before a judge alone was adjourned until Thursday.
