Warren Jeffs is returned to prison after treatment
The leader of a polygamist sect has recovered from illnesses that sent him hopping to prison units and hospitals around Texas.
The San Angelo Standard-Times reports
Warren Jeffs, 55, the leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, has returned to the Powledge Unit in Palestine, a prison official has said. [...]
Because of fasts and other unspecified medical conditions, Jeffs needed medical treatment shortly after he was sentenced in early August to life plus 20 years in prison for sexually assaulting two girls 12 and 15 years old.
Jeffs went to three separate institutions before returning to the Powledge Unit on Sept. 30, where he has been in protective custody to keep other inmates from him.
Jeffs’ first-degree felony bigamy case is scheduled for February, and a pretrial is scheduled Jan. 6.
