Texas police: Mother says devil made her kill son

Police said they found a 3 1/2-week-old infant stabbed and decapitated in a Texas home on Sunday and his mother screaming that she killed her son after the devil told her to do it.

Otty Sanchez, 33, of San Antonio, was taken to a local hospital in critical condition with self-inflicted stab wounds to her chest and stomach, said San Antonio police spokesman Joe Rios. Investigators took a sword, a machete and a kitchen knife from the home.

A family member called police shortly before 5 a.m. When officers arrived at the home on Wayside Drive, they found the mutilated body of infant Scott Wesley Buckholtz-Sanchez in a bedroom.

The three-and-a-half-week old infant had likely died earlier Sunday morning, police said.

Police said his mother, was sitting on a couch, crying. She told police she killed the boy and wanted to kill herself.

Now police are asking questions about Sanchez’s mental state. Officers say she told them that she killed her son because she heard “voices” in her head telling her to do it.

“She mentioned that someone or something told her to do it, she was hearing voices. So that leads us to believe that she was experiencing some type of mental crisis,” Rios said. “The baby had obviously been decapitated.”

Other cases

Texas has seen several other high-profile cases in which mothers killed their children citing religious reasons: Andrea Yates and Dena Schlosser.

Last December a Texas couple bludgeoned a 13-month-old girl to death with a hammer and other objects and bit her more than 20 times in what they claimed was an effort to exorcise her.
